What information is available in the Orca Logbook?

Updated this week

There are five main categories of information that the Logbook shows:

  1. Boating Track – shows you where you travelled on the chosen day in the Logbook.

  2. Trip Summary- provides an overview of key information from your trip.

  3. Navigation- shows Speed Over Ground and Speed Through Water

  4. Environment- shows information regarding wind and currents

  5. Consumption- shows battery voltage and fuel consumption

  6. Fuel tanks- shows the difference in fuel between the end and start of the trip

The Logbook requires an Orca Core

How does the Boating Track appear in the Logbook?

When you enter the Logbook, the Boating Track for your most recent day recorded appears, with the rest of the logbook appearing below.

You can hide the Boating Track and map view by scrolling up.

What appears in the Trip Summary?

Four types of information appear.

  1. Starting Time

  2. Travel time

  3. Distance

  4. Average Speed Over Ground

This information can be exported as a GPX file, by clicking the three horizontal dots in the right-hand corner.

What appears under Navigation?

Two types of information appear:

  • Speed Over Ground (SOG) - Both maximum and average SOG are shown, as well as how much time is spent moving. A graph showing how speed differs through time is also included.

  • Speed Through Water (STW) - Maximum and average STW are shown. Like SOG, a graph is also included.

What appears under Environment?

Two types of information appear:

  • Wind - Maximum and average True Wind Speed (TWS) are shown, as well as average and minimum True Wind direction (TWD). The TWS data is shown on a graph.

  • Currents - Maximum and average Current Speed are shown, as well as average Current Direction. The Current Speed data is shown on a graph.

What appears under Consumption?

Three types of information appear:

  • Batteries (12V) - The average voltage of the batteries at both the start and end of the trip is shown, as well as the lowest voltage recorded during the trip. A graph is available for each battery.

  • Engines - Total fuel consumption, the average consumption rates per hour and distance, as well as the average RPM are shown. Graphs showing all this data are available for each engine.

  • Fuel tanks - The fuel levels at the start and end of the trip are shown. A graph is available for each individual tank.

How can I view another trip in my Logbook?

Although the logbook automatically shows the most recent trip, it is easy to view other dates.

There are two options to do this:

  • White button at the bottom of the screen - The bottom of the screen displays the data currently being shown. Click the arrows to the left or right of the date to go to the trips directly before and after the current one. You can also press directly on the date to scroll through all trips

  • Calendar icon - This icon is next to ‘Logbook’ at the top of the page. It is also available when you click on every sub-category, so you can skip through dates and go to a particular date category. After clicking on this icon, you scroll through the dates until you find your chosen trip.

When the app is not connected to the Core or to the internet, the logbook may not be complete. A notice will appear on the app (see screenshot below)
