Customising your Display 2

Making the Display 2 work for you

There are a range of different ways to customise the Display 2. This article will provide you with the instructions to add the built-in Android Navigation Bar, customise the keyboard, give your Display 2 a more traditional tablet layout for any downloaded apps, and enter split screen mode.

Android Navigation Bar

There are two main ways to move through the Display 2: gesture navigation or Android’s three-button navigation bar.

In order to change how you can move between apps and navigate around the Display 2, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Android settings on the Display 2

  2. Go to System

  3. Click on Gestures

  4. Select System Navigation

Keyboard Customisation

You can customise the keyboard of the Display 2 as a regular digital keyboard or turn it into the Google keyboard (Gboard).

  1. Start typing to bring up the Display 2 keyboard

  2. Click on the four squares in the top left-hand corner of the keyboard

  3. Choose what you would like to change. You can:

    1. Resize the keyboard

    2. Change its colour

    3. Split the keyboard

  4. If you would like more customisation options, just click the small gear icon on the keyboard. This will take you to the Gboard settings

From Traditional Chartplotter to Regular Tablet Layout

Our product is Google-certified and regular Android apps can be run on it. The screen's layout can be changed from either having the Orca app as the home app, or having a regular tablet layout with app icons arranged in a grid.

To switch between these modes, you will need to:

  1. Head to the Display 2's Android Settings

  2. Open Apps

  3. Click on Default apps

  4. Select Home app

  5. Choose Quickstep or Orca from the menu

Split Screen Mode

The split screen mode feature allows the Orca app to stay open on one half of the screen, leaving the other half free for another app of your choice. This means that you will be able to use two apps at the same time.

To enter split screen mode on the Display 2, you will need to do the following:

  1. As you will be able to use two apps at the same time during this mode, start by opening the app that you would later like to appear on the left hand side of the screen

  2. Navigate to the Recent Apps view. You can do this by clicking the square on the right side of the bottom navigation bar, or by swiping up and holding before releasing if using gesture navigation.

  3. Press on the app icon at the top of the app preview whilst in Recent Apps view

  4. Click on Split Screen

  5. Then, select the second app you want to use from the Recent Apps view/app drawer

  6. To stop using split screen, drag the divider bar between the apps left or right/up or down (depending on your Display 2’s orientation)

To set up split screen mode, your Display 2 will need to have Quickstep selected as the Home app.
