Who is the Orca App for?
Updated over 7 months ago

The Orca App delivers crisp and beautiful marine offline charts, great powerboat and sailboat routing, marine weather forecasts, and AIS via the Internet. The Orca app is great for planning and navigating that runs on your phone, tablet, and Mac.

There are many reasons why you want to use the Orca App, but here are the most common:

  • You want a backup system

  • You want to plan from home

  • You want a weather-aware planning system

You want a backup system

If you already have a traditional navigation system that you are happy with, the Orca App is a great way to add redundancy and safety.

The Orca App will use the GPS in your phone or tablet, giving you access to marine charts, even offline. The Orca App operates fully independently of your chartplotter, and should you have technical issues with your chartplotter or onboard electrical system – then the Orca App is a fantastic addition.

You want to plan from home

The Orca App runs on tablets, smartphones, and Macs. It means you can plan at home or on the go – and you are not confined to your boat for viewing charts and plotting routes.

All devices are synced via the Orca Cloud, so when you plan one route on one device, it will automatically appear on all your other devices.

A typical Orca app user plans at home on a Mac and uses the Orca app on a phone or tablet while navigating to track progress along the route.

You want a weather-aware planning system

The Orca App gives you access to weather-aware route planning, which makes planning effortless.

For powerboats, Orca estimates your travel speed to show you exactly how the weather will be along the trip. For sailboats, Orca delivers advanced sail routing that accounts for the weather forecast and your boat's performance profile to find the best route to your destination.
